Creative designer and photographer Tony Noel built his Dubai desk around five simple words: "Keep it Minimal and Cosy." Now, minimalism and warmth don't usually play nice together — you strip things down and suddenly everything feels cold, or you add comfort and suddenly it's cluttered. But Tony cracked it: let the tech do the heavy lifting, and let light and materials do the warmth.

The Tech Side of Things

Let one large monitor anchor the desk and keep the surface around it clear.

Take in the full workstation: standing desk, chair, and screen in one view.

At the core: a Navodesk motorised standing desk topped with a BenQ PD3220U monitor — the colour accuracy matters when you're doing creative work for real. The screen sits on an NB North Bayou dual monitor arm, which keeps the actual desk surface free and open. A Mac Mini M1 tucks underneath, and the MacBook Pro 16" stands upright on the left edge rather than sprawling flat. Everything plugs into a Satechi USB-C hub in Space Gray. For input, just an Apple Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and a Magic Mouse on the felt pad — nothing more.

Where the Warmth Actually Lives

Wrap precise equipment in wood and felt so a minimal desk still feels warm.

Tuck the audio interface and Mac Mini under the riser to free up surface space.

This is where the actual work happens. An IKEA SIGFINN wooden riser does the heavy lifting — it lifts the monitor and brings warm wood tones to what would otherwise be grey and silver. Behind the screen, an Ulanzi ambient light adds a soft glow, and a 36 x 12-inch NOSKIN felt desk pad covers the keyboard zone in something that actually feels nice to touch, way better than cold laminate.

Dubai's bright daylight makes managing the contrast tricky, but that's the whole philosophy: keep the gear precise and functional, let warmth come from materials and light instead of clutter.

Sound and Photography

Stand the laptop upright beside the monitor instead of leaving it flat on the desk.

Audio gets real estate. PreSonus Eris speakers sit on either side of the monitor, and Audio-Technica ATH headphones rest on that felt pad when they're not in use. A Sony A7RV camera hangs out near the right corner — fitting for a working photographer. The MacBook Pro stays docked upright with the lid shut, completely off the working surface.

The Takeaway

Two rules, one desk: make the hardware do its job, keep everything else soft and light. Whether minimalism and warmth can actually coexist is up for debate — but this setup proved it can, earning finalist status at the 2026 World Desk Setup Festival and a Hexcal Magnetic Charging Cable to show for it.
