After some serious tweaking, this study room kept its original bones but went all-in on ambiance and comfort. The owner works freelance here, so it's basically a home studio slash creative sanctuary: proper work desk by the window, a bar counter for stepping away, and bookshelves within arm's reach. Let me walk you through it.

The Work Desk

A solid study really starts with a desk that just works, and this one does. Most of the gear stayed from before—the big change was upgrading to a better monitor for design work. The Mac mini, MacBook Pro, and keyboard are all exactly where they need to be, nothing wasted.

Cable management's straightforward: run the monitor cable down the arm, keep power stuff near the edge, then dump everything into the tray underneath. Desktop stays clear, no wires dangling around where you can see them.

A Bar Counter for Actually Taking Breaks

Having a bar table on the side actually makes a difference. When your brain's fried from hours at the desk, you've got somewhere to step away without actually leaving the room. Stand for a bit, perch on a stool with your laptop, whatever—it helps shake off that desk fatigue.

A record player sits on the counter, with a framed print of the turntable hanging above. Throw in some fresh flowers and potted plants, and suddenly this corner feels like the room's chill-out zone. Summer especially—the greenery actually cools things down a bit.

Lighting and That Donut-Shaped Workflow

This update added way more lighting—spread throughout instead of concentrated in one spot. Brightness comes in layers now, so even late-night sessions feel less like you're in an interrogation room.

The bookshelf and storage shelf are positioned to the right, close enough that you can slide your chair over and grab whatever without standing up. It forms this donut-shaped layout with the desk at the center, and honestly, being surrounded by books while you work just feels right.

The Tiny Details That Actually Matter

Some new accessories do a surprising amount of heavy lifting mood-wise. There's this wooden duck phone stand and a little wooden monster tissue box—both quietly adorable. The owner can't keep pets (dust mite allergies), so cute objects like these actually fill that gap.

New mug too. The Klein blue one was great, but this dark green version just works better with the room. Then there's an eroded Zeus statue candleholder that gives the bar some artistic credibility, and a clear magazine rack that turns your reading pile into actual decor.

That's It

Same space, same bones, but way warmer, better lit, and actually pleasant to spend eight hours in. Here's what made it happen:

  • Desktop: Mac mini
  • Laptop: MacBook Pro
  • Monitor: BenQ
  • Record player: Coolgeek
  • Zeus candle: Daniel Arsham x Cabana
  • Phone stand & tissue box: Yuanshangcheng
  • Dark green mug: Shiliukai
