My Immersive Work-From-Home Desk: A 2㎡ Corner for Work and Gaming

A 2㎡ dark-toned home office corner built during lockdown, pairing a MacBook Air and PC with a dual-screen, dual-speaker setup for work and play.

A good workspace does more than just look nice — it actually makes you want to sit down and get stuff done. When lockdown hit, I found myself tinkering with this desk constantly, and over time those two square meters turned into something I genuinely love spending time at, whether I'm working or gaming. Let me walk you through how it all came together.

The Main Setup

At the heart of this setup is a MacBook Air (M1) and an i7 + 1660 PC tower. Everything's done in dark tones — it just feels right at the end of a long day. The main monitor is an AOC U2790PQU mounted on a Songneng T7 arm, with a Vhensze DQ20 sitting below it showing the time on a big clock face. It's kind of the perfect secondary display — keeps me on schedule without cluttering the desk.

For input, I'm using a Logitech MX Keys and MX Master 3. An iPad Pro (M1) sits between them on a black walnut riser and doubles as a third screen when I need it. Everything's anchored on a large felt desk mat layered over a leather-textured pad — it ties the whole dark aesthetic together and mentally defines where the "work zone" actually is.

The Shelf and Wall Behind

A closer look at the walnut shelf with the HomePod mini and the secondary clock display.

Behind the monitors sits a slim walnut shelf. There's a HomePod mini up there, a small stand, and a couple of figures — just enough personality so it doesn't feel like a sterile tech cave. A Despot 80cm light bar sits above the main screen, and honestly it's one of those upgrades that instantly makes everything better. No glare, even light once the sun goes down.

To the right is a pegboard wall that holds the overflow — a flip clock, my headphones, spare keyboards, a phone dock showing the time. Everything's visible and within reach, but it's not all sitting on the desk taking up real estate.

Audio and the Small Stuff

The iPad Pro works as a third screen between the keyboard and monitor, also showing the clock.

A walnut tray corrals the SSD, memory card, and adapters; the two desk speakers sit on wooden stands.

I run a stereo pair of HomePod minis alongside an Edifier M230 — that retro wooden speaker is such a vibe. The wood tones on both the speaker and their stands echo the riser and shelf, so the audio gear doesn't feel like random tech bolted onto the desk.

For the bits that accumulate — a Samsung portable SSD, memory cards, adapters — they all live in a walnut tray tucked at the corner. Simple habit, but it keeps the surface clear by day's end, which matters more than you'd think when you're staring at the same desk eight hours a day.
