Wanbao String Shadow Night Light Review: A 2200K Amber Glow

A visual overview of the Wanbao String Shadow night light: a 2200K COB lamp with an 1800mAh battery rated for 8+ hours, a 0.7W draw, and a 300g body.

The Wanbao String Shadow night light is basically a single vertical line of COB light wrapped in a portable package. You get a warm 2200K glow, an 1800mAh battery that lasts 8+ hours, pulls just 0.7W, and weighs only 300g. Let me walk you through what it's actually like.

One Warm Line, Soft Amber Glow

Set one warm line lamp on the nightstand for a low amber glow before sleep.

The whole thing works around that single lit strand. The COB strip runs straight up through a tapered, smoke-tinted acrylic shade—the shade keeps the light soft and diffused rather than creating that harsh bright spot you'd normally get. At 2200K, you're looking at a sunset-amber kind of warmth, the type that actually makes sense to have on before bed or sitting next to a stack of books in a dim corner.

Design-wise, it's pretty straightforward: wide round base, narrow top, light line connecting them. The base has that metal finish, and since it's only 300g, you can move it around without thinking twice.

The Dial and What's Inside

Turn the front knob to raise or lower brightness without touching the light line.

You control brightness with one knob on the front of the base. A curved arc and a plus sign show which way turns it up—no app, no remote, just the physical dial. Pretty refreshing, honestly.

Inside the shade, the light rod slots into a disc with radial cuts, and the inner face has a fine concentric texture that helps spread the glow across the acrylic evenly. The label underneath says WB-5 and lists the materials: ABS, HIPS, PMMA, and aluminum.

Battery Life and Where to Put It

Read the base label for model WB-5, the materials list, and the 1800mAh cell.

You're working with a 1800mAh built-in battery rated for 8+ hours per charge. The label confirms it's a 3.7V/1800mAh cell, charges at 5V 1A, and draws 0.7W—that's basically nothing in terms of energy use, so you won't notice it on your power bill.

Where does it actually work? Depends on the vibe you want. Nightstand or study corner is the obvious choice for that warm glow. But throw it on a bar or café counter and suddenly the whole space feels a bit slower, a bit softer. Take it out to a balcony or a campsite, and the light catches your face with that evening air around you—lightweight enough that carrying it isn't a hassle. It also makes a solid holiday gift if you're stuck on what to get someone.

The Bottom Line

This lamp doesn't try to be something it's not. One warm line of light, a dial to turn, a battery that lasts through the evening. If you want a nightstand or balcony glow without wiring anything up, that's basically the whole story. Worth considering if that's what you're after.
