Black, White and Silver: A Seoul Architect's Desk Setup Tour

Architect Penna works in Seoul, and his desk is a color specification before it is a workstation: white for surfaces, black for structure, silver for everything in between. That three-color discipline earned a Finalist Award at the World Desk Setup Festival 2026, entry S-0135.

Three Colors, Three Jobs

Penna started from materials rather than gear, and the palette splits the labor cleanly. White covers the desk surface, the wall and the vertical blinds — the blinds doing double duty by softening daylight so the room reads larger and cleaner. Black goes to the functional pieces: the desktop riser and the mesh chair are visual anchors as much as they are the parts that carry real load. Silver lands on the keyboard shell and the audio devices, where a metal finish naturally bridges the two extremes. His rule is simple: stay restrained and let the materials speak.

White Below, Black for Support

A white IKEA Troten tabletop keeps the base quiet. On top of it, the black Hexcal Studio riser lifts the Dell UltraSharp U3225QE off the desk, with a Luna Lab arm holding the monitor and a BenQ HALO2 light bar clipped across its top edge. KEF LSX speakers sit on slim stands at either side, and headphones rest on a stand so the surface does not fill up — a small tray and a charging pad take the loose items. The black Herman Miller New Aeron rolls in as the counterweight to all that white: one large dark object, and the seat the rest of the room is built around.

Silver Is the Bridge

The silver pieces carry the transitions. The AngryMiao Neon80 pairs a perforated silver case with black keycaps, so the keyboard reads as both colors at once, and the Logitech MX Master 3S sits beside it in matte black. Audio follows the same logic: a Bose QC Ultra on its stand, an Audio-Technica AT4040 on an arm, and the KEF LSX drivers echoing the same metal tone. Nothing here shouts. Silver is simply where black meets white.
